Ask AI
Asks Claude a question about the data you wire in. Everything wired to it is sent to Claude.
| Port | Side | What it carries |
|---|---|---|
connect a trigger | In | Optional. The on/off that asks the question, once each time it turns on. Without it, nothing is asked until you press Ask. |
data sources | In | The records or figures the question is about. All of it is sent to Claude. |
override the prompt | In | Optional. Text for the question, such as a Text box, in place of the one typed on the card. |
the answer | Out | Claude's answer — a paragraph as a summary, or a table as records. Reads "the table" when records are chosen. |
ok | Out | On while the last answer came back without an error. |
What leaves Fluidly
Everything wired into data sources is sent to Claude, Anthropic's model, to answer the question. That is the purpose of the component, and why its tile in the palette says exposes data.
The canvas decides what goes. A filter placed before Ask AI runs first, so the rows it removes are never sent — no question can bring them back. Wire only what you would be content to share. Very large sets are trimmed to fit before they are sent.
What you choose
The question, and the shape of the answer.
- Summary — one paragraph, to read or to put in an email.
- Records — a table, to pass on to a Table, a filter or a sum.
Type the question on the card, or wire a Text box to override the prompt; while it is wired, the typed question is set aside, not lost. Choose the model on the card. The cheapest, Haiku, is the default and is usually enough for a question over a ledger.
When it asks
Each question costs money and returns a fresh answer, so Ask AI never asks on its own. Press Ask on the card, or wire a trigger: a Button trigger to ask on demand, a Calendar for a weekly note, a Range trigger to ask only when something is wrong.
Between questions the answer stays on the card, marked stale answer once the data has moved on. Unwire the data and it stops sending anything onwards.
What Fluidly decides
The answer arrives in the shape you chose, or not at all. If Claude returns something else, Ask AI reports an error rather than passing on a best guess — a table you planned to sum never arrives as prose.
Without a Claude API key the answers are stand-ins. A team admin adds one under Team settings.
Example
ERP (unpaid invoices) → Ask AI → Email (body), with Calendar (Monday 08:00) → connect a trigger: Which receivables should we chase first, and why? — answered every Monday morning.
