Miscellaneous

Slider

Shows a number against a range, or lets you set one by dragging. With Fan mode on, the range travels as uncertainty.

PortSideWhat it carries
amountInAn optional number to show. Leave it empty and the Slider is yours to drag.
minInAn optional number for the low end of the range, in place of the one typed on the card.
maxInAn optional number for the high end of the range, in place of the one typed on the card.
outOutThe number on the Slider — with its range attached as a fan when Fan mode is on.

What you choose

A range, and either a value or something to watch.

  • Nothing wired into amount — drag the thumb. The Slider is a number you set by hand, and what you set goes out.
  • A number wired into amount — the Slider shows where it sits in the range, and passes it on unchanged.

The low and high ends are typed on the card itself, beside the bar, when you open it with the pencil. Wire a number into min or max and that end follows the data instead.

Three shapes

Drag the corner to resize, and the shape follows the proportions:

  • horizontal — wide and low, a bar read left to right.
  • vertical — tall and narrow, a bar read bottom to top.
  • gauge — roughly square, a dial with the value in the middle.

On the ⋯ menu you choose whether the bar is one flat colour or a full gradient from low to high, and whether the ends and the value are labelled.

Fan mode

Off, the Slider sends one number. On, it sends the range with it: the low and high ends become the outer edges of a fan — almost certainly within — and the levels between them are drawn from each side on its own, so a range that leans one way gives a fan that leans the same way. The thumb then reads the value and its range together, so a chart that grows a band downstream has a visible reason.

Multiply and Add carry the fan forward. Wire the Slider into a Forecast's fine-tune and the two fans are composed, level by level — the pessimistic end of yours with the pessimistic end of the forecast's. The switch says so when it is wired that way.

Example

Slider (0.97 to 1.05, set at 1.02, Fan mode on) → Forecast fine-tune, with Bank Account → Forecast → Timeline: next year's cash with two percent growth, and a fan that admits you might be off by three percent either way.
